One of the choices some expecting mothers struggle with when booking their maternity photography session is location. While not all photographers offer multiple location options, I’m happy to do maternity shoots either in the studio or outdoors. And they’re both very popular!
Ashley wanted some implied nude photos in my Eugene, Oregon photography studio, but she also loved the look of outdoor photos, especially for couples shots, and was hoping to do some of those too. Normally a studio shoot and an outdoor shoot would be two separate sessions, but, as luck would have it, I live pretty close to an awesome field in Southwest Eugene, so we were able to get all the photos she was hoping for in one fell swoop.
We kept our studio maternity photos very minimal. Just Ashley and her husband Blake, a couple of simple outfits, and my posing blocks. (Have I mentioned that I love my new posing blocks? They’re a pretty recent acquisition and are the perfect answer to balancing simple, clean setups and still having tons of variety!)
We used my white wrap for an elegant look with our implied nudes, and contrasted it with a more casual black outfit for some of our other shots. Love the clean lines and the total focus on this beautiful mother-to-be!
Near sunset, we picked a cream-colored maternity gown and headed to that great field I mentioned. The setting sun gave us a perfect glow! The sweet, natural vibe of these outdoor photos is exactly what we were hoping to capture, and Blake and Ashley were so comfortable with each other in front of the camera. We were able to create some fun, intimate moments between them that were just beautiful!
I love the contrast between these studio and outdoor maternity pictures and am so excited for Ashley, her husband Blake, and their new baby girl!
